“Most I’ve ever pulled out was four or five 6-gallon buckets. “The squirrel set a record,” Fischer said. Still, he wasn’t prepared for just how many nuts would be squirreled away this year. “The squirrel will sit in the tree and watch me clean up the walnuts almost like: ‘That’s mine, buddy,’ as he’s watching me clean up his winter storage,” Fischer told the Post. He knows when the walnuts fall off the tree, it’s time to check the engine. He’s also learned to wait until there are no walnuts left lying under the tree before commencing his cleanup. Over the years, Fischer has learned how to deal with the squirrelly behavior. “I’ve even parked purposely out on the street - as far away as I can from the walnut tree - and they still go find the Avalanche and hide them in there.” “I’ve got other vehicles that sit very close to that tree, and it’s always my truck,” Fischer told The Washington Post. “I had to pull the fenders off and clean out all the walnuts out, and thought I had them all and took it down the road, turned the corner and found one rolling down the windshield where the wipers go,” Fischer told the Grand Forks Herald.Īs nutty as this all might seem, it’s “nut” the first time this has happened.įischer said red squirrels have been using his truck to store walnuts from his neighbor’s tree every two years - the tree’s maturation cycle ― since 2013. Fischer removed enough to fill seven 6-gallon containers. A squirrel in Fargo, North Dakota, is really nuts for walnuts ― to the point where it collected 42 gallons of the snack and stored them in a local man’s Chevy Avalanche.īill Fischer said he came home from a four-day work trip earlier this month and discovered that his truck was filled with black walnuts, each roughly the size of a lime.Īs his Facebook photos show, the walnuts were tucked into every nook and cranny of the Chevy, including the engine compartment and the fenders.

NOW YOU CAN ACTUALLY RUN THIS IN A STICK CONFIGURATION, BUT FOR US WE'RE MOSTLY GONNA BE USING IT IN AC TIG OR DC TIG MODES FOR ALUMINUM AND STEEL. THAT MEANS IT'LL WELD THREEEIGHTHS INCH THICK STEEL OR ALUMINUM. IT'S A POWERFUL TIG WELDER THAT'S RATED AT UP TO 280 AMPS OF POWER. TO HELP US OUT WITH THAT WE HAVE SOME NEW EQUIPMENT IN THE SHOP. (NARRATOR)> NEXT, JUST SAY NO TO CRACK! (LT)> WE HAVE OUR KFIVE FRAME COMPLETELY STRIPPED DOWN AND WE'VE SHOWN YOU A COUPLE OF PROBLEM AREAS THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS, AND WE'RE GONNA START BY STITCHING THE FRAME BACK TOGETHER WHERE THE STEERING BOX MOUNTS. SO WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD AND GET IT TAKEN CARE OF. AS THE WHEELS AND TIRES MOVE WITH THE STEERING IT PUTS STRESS ON THE FRONT OF THE FRAME AND EVENTUALLY STARTS TO CRACK. YOU CAN SEE IT STARTS AT THE BOTTOM AND RUNS ALL THE WAY UP NEAR THE TOP, AND IT'S ONE OF THE WORST ONES I'VE EVER SEEN. ONE IS THIS REAR DRIVER BODY MOUNT THAT HAS A RUST HOLE IN IT, AND ANOTHER ONE IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS ERA OF FOUR WHEEL DRIVE TRUCKS, A CRACK IN THE FRAME RIGHT WHERE THE STEERING BOX MOUNTS. NOW THERE'S TWO DAMAGED AREAS THAT WE'LL HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF. NOW WE'LL BE REUSING SOME OF THESE, BUT REPLACING MOST. (LT)> PUSH, PUSH, THERE YOU GO! (JEREMY)> CLIMB ANYTHING! OVERALL TEAR DOWN WENT PRETTY SMOOTH, AND NOW WE HAVE A BIG PILE OF PARTS TO SORT THROUGH. WITH THE FRONT OF THE SPRINGS DISCONNECTED, WE CAN ROLL THE AXLE OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE CHASSIS. THEY SLIDE OUT NICELY WITH A FEW GENTLE TAPS OF A HAMMER. (JEREMY)> NEXT IS THE SWAY BAR FRAME MOUNTS, FOLLOWED BY THE SHACKLES. (JEREMY)> OUT FRONT WE REMOVED THE UPPER SHOCK MOUNTS AND DISCONNECT THE STEERING GEAR FROM THE FRAME. (LT)> AND WITH THE FINAL BOLT PUSHED OUT, WE CAN ROLL THE JUNKY 10 BOLT AWAY FROM THE BLAZER FOR GOOD. (JEREMY)> WATCH THESE SKILLS WHEN I COME OFF HERE. ONCE THE AIR HAMMER HAS SHEARED OFF THE BOLT WE'LL TRY TO PRY THE SPRING FREE USING THE MOTHER OF ALL PRY BARS. YOU DONE WITH THAT THING YET, I NEED IT? (LT)> WORKING ON IT! ON THE OTHER SIDE WE'RE ATTEMPTING TO USE A RECIPROCATING SAW TO CUT THROUGH THE SLEEVE, BUT IT'S SLOW PROGRESS. USING A THING CHISEL I CAN SHEAR THE BOLT OFF INSIDE THE HANGER. SO I'LL BRING IN THE BIG GUN, THE AIR HAMMER. BY TURNING THE SLEEVE WE CAN REACH MORE OF IT, BUT IT'S STILL NOT ENOUGH. THIS WILL GET ME CLOSE, BUT THE WHEEL ISN'T BIG ENOUGH TO REACH ALL THE WAY THROUGH. FIRST WE'LL TRY TO CHIP AWAY THE BOLT AND SLEEVE INSIDE THE HANGER USING A CUTOFF DISC. THE SLEEVES TEND TO RUST OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BUSHINGS. (JEREMY)> THEN ATTACK THE LEAF SPRINGS NEXT. (LT)> WE'LL JACK UP THE REAR OF THE FRAME AND SLIP SOME STANDS UNDERNEATH. (LT)> THE REAR BUMPER IS NEXT ON THE LIST OF THINGS TO GO AWAY. SO WE WON'T SEND IT OFF TO THE JUNKYARD JUST YET. THESE WON'T BE REUSED, BUT WILL NEED SOME BRACKETS AND SMALL PIECE. (JEREMY)> WE'LL ATTACH THE ENGINE AND TRANS TO OUR HOIST, AND REMOVE THEM FROM THE FRAME. NEXT THE VAPOR, FUEL, AND BRAKE LINES ARE REMOVED FROM THE FRAME AS ONE GROUP. (LT)> OUT BACK THE FUEL TANK CAN BE LOWERED FROM THE FRAME AND DRAGGED TO OUR GROWING PILE OF PARTS. NEXT UP WE'LL REMOVE THE TRANSFER CASE, MAKING SURE TO CATCH THE FLUID IN A DRAIN PAN. (LT)> YES SIR! (JEREMY)> THE WORK BEGINS BY CUTTING OFF THE OLD EXHAUST AT THE HEADER AND BEHIND THE MUFFLER, AND TOSSING ASIDE THE OLD JUNK. CAPTION: Waiting Room at The Charles Lazarus Children’s Abilities Center (photo courtesy of Mount Sinai Health System/Mirelle Phillips) James Gregory (1638–1675) observed the diffraction patterns caused by a bird feather, which was effectively the first diffraction grating to be discovered. Isaac Newton studied these effects and attributed them to inflexion of light rays. The results of Grimaldi's observations were published posthumously in 1665. The effects of diffraction of light were first carefully observed and characterized by Francesco Maria Grimaldi, who also coined the term diffraction, from the Latin diffringere, 'to break into pieces', referring to light breaking up into different directions. History Thomas Young's sketch of two-slit diffraction for water waves, which he presented to the Royal Society in 1803. In this case, when the waves pass through the gap they become semi-circular. Diffraction is greatest when the size of the gap is similar to the wavelength of the wave. The amount of diffraction depends on the size of the gap. Furthermore, quantum mechanics also demonstrates that matter possesses wave-like properties and, therefore, undergoes diffraction (which is measurable at subatomic to molecular levels). These effects also occur when a light wave travels through a medium with a varying refractive index, or when a sound wave travels through a medium with varying acoustic impedance – all waves diffract, including gravitational waves, water waves, and other electromagnetic waves such as X-rays and radio waves. If there are multiple, closely spaced openings (e.g., a diffraction grating), a complex pattern of varying intensity can result. This is due to the addition, or interference, of different points on the wavefront (or, equivalently, each wavelet) that travel by paths of different lengths to the registering surface. The characteristic bending pattern is most pronounced when a wave from a coherent source (such as a laser) encounters a slit/aperture that is comparable in size to its wavelength, as shown in the inserted image. In classical physics, the diffraction phenomenon is described by the Huygens–Fresnel principle that treats each point in a propagating wavefront as a collection of individual spherical wavelets. Infinitely many points (three shown) along length d on the registering plate. Italian scientist Francesco Maria Grimaldi coined the word diffraction and was the first to record accurate observations of the phenomenon in 1660. The diffracting object or aperture effectively becomes a secondary source of the propagating wave. Not to be confused with refraction, the change in direction of a wave passing from one medium to another.Ī diffraction pattern of a red laser beam projected onto a plate after passing through a small circular aperture in another plateĭiffraction is the interference or bending of waves around the corners of an obstacle or through an aperture into the region of geometrical shadow of the obstacle/aperture. The central was the Grenaderimägi (Grenadier Hill Grenadierhöhe) and the westernmost was the Tornimägi (Tower Hill, also known in German as or 69.9 or Liebhöhe (Love Hill)). The eastern hill was known to Estonians as the Lastekodumägi (Orphanage Hill Kinderheimhöhe in German). Main articles: Battle of Narva (1944) and Narva Offensive (July 1944) View from the summit of the Grenadier Hill towards the Orphanage HillĪfter defending the Narva bridgehead for six months, the German forces fell back to the Tannenberg Line in the hills of Sinimäed ( Russian: Синие горы) on 26 July 1944. As the Soviet forces were constantly reinforced, their overall casualties are estimated by Estonian historian Mart Laar to be 170,000 dead and wounded. The German force of 22,250 men held off 136,830 Soviet troops. Roughly half of the infantry consisted of the personnel of the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Estonian). Waffen-SS forces included 24 volunteer infantry battalions from the SS Division Nordland, the SS Division Langemarck, the SS Division Nederland, and the Walloon Legion. The strategic aim of the Soviet Estonian Operation was to reoccupy Estonia as a favorable base for the invasions of Finland and East Prussia. The battle was fought on the Eastern Front during World War II. They fought for the strategically important Narva Isthmus from 25 July–10 August 1944. The Battle of Tannenberg Line ( German: Die Schlacht um die Tannenbergstellung Russian: Битва за линию «Танненберг») or the Battle of the Blue Hills ( Estonian: Sinimägede lahing) was a military engagement between the German Army Detachment Narwa and the Soviet Leningrad Front. The battle of Tannenberg led up to the next battle. This is a sub-article to Battle of Narva (1944). The Germans were very happy that they won the battle. They pretty much destroyed the entire Russian first and second army and took them as prisoners. When the battle was completely over, they realized that because the Germans won that battle, it was a big battle to win. The Russians surrendered and almost all of the soldiers were taken as prisoners. In the middle of the night, the Russians were surrounded by the German army with no way to escape. The Russians moved and went towards Neidenburg. The main battle started on August 26th, on this day, the German army ordered an attack on the Russians left wing and ended up making the Russians retreat. These little attacks all led up to the main battle and bigger attacks. The German’s retreated to avoid bigger attacks. On the 24th, they met again at Orlau-Frankenau and the Russians attacked the Germans again. On August 23rd the Russian’s second army attacked the German’s XX corps. This battle took place August 23rd through August 30th. The Battle of Tannenberg all started in August 1914, during the first few days of WW1 between the Russian’s first and second armies, and the German eighth army. So I am going to be talking about what happened before, during, and after the battle, in more detail. The results were the Germans defeated the Russians. In the actual battle, the Germans started attacking back and finally made the Russians stop attacking. Before the battle, the Russians started invading and attacking the German Army and that led into the battle. The Battle of Tannenberg was a very short battle, there were things that happened before the battle, during the battle, and after the battle. When you are done, thoroughly clean the blade of the mustard/vinegar. You can always apply another coat of mustard or put the blade back in the vinegar. Start out with shorter periods of time and see how you like the finish. We don’t recommend letting it go for more than a few hours as you may start to get heavy amounts of corrosion if you leave it on there too long. The longer you wait, the more oxidation and deep coloring you will get. Let the blade sit with the mustard or vinegar on it for a minimum of 20 minutes up to a few hours. Vinegar will give more of a solid charcoal gray patina without much of a pattern. If you use vinegar, you will submerse either part or all of the blade in a cup or can like shown. Mustard will result in more a of a blue tinted patina. You can try experimenting with using a sponge to blot the blade, giving it a cool design. If you are using mustard, you will get more of a pattern that matches the spread of the mustard. The next step is to cover your blade with either mustard or vinegar. Since this is a knife I have had for a while, I rubbed the blade with some Bar Keepers Friend to remove previous oxidation. If it is a new knife, simply wipe the knife with some rubbing alcohol to remove any oils on the carbon steel. The first step is to prepare you blade for treatment. Our two favorite inexpensive carbon steel knifes are Morakivs and Opinel.Ĭheck Price on Amazon Step 1. This way you can figure out how to get the finish you want without risking a more expensive knife turning out poorly. When you first start experimenting with forcing a patina on a blade, you should consider buying an inexpensive knife or two that you can experiment with. The benefit of a patina is that it actually forms a protective layer than makes it less likely rust will develop on the carbon steel. If it is absent, you will get a layer of Magnetite. If water is present, common brown/orange rust will form. The difference in whether Hermite or Magnetite form has to do with the presence of water. Hermite, or rust as most people know it, has a chemical formula of Fe2O3. The patina is made from what is called Magnetite (Fe3O4). Both rust and the patina are a combination of iron molecules and oxygen molecules. The chemical composition of rust and the patina are similar but not quite the same. What is the difference between a patina and rust? The patina is similar to rust in that it is oxidation, but there are some differences and in fact it can help protect from rust. What is a Patina?Ī patina is a thin layer of oxidation on the surface of carbon steel. This article is going to show you exactly how you can get a nice blue patina on your carbon steel blade. Luckily, a patina on the blade can help minimize the possibility of rust. While carbon steel has some advantages over stainless steel, one of it’s downsides is that it is prone to rusting. The main benefit being that it holds an edge longer. Many knife owners, including chefs, tout the benefits of carbon steel over stainless steel. Acute bronchitis can last for up to 90 days. The inflammation causes more mucus to be produced, which narrows the airway and makes breathing more difficult. So the basics of a good airflow case are present and accounted for. The open internal layout also helps keep your components cool by limiting airflow obstructions. It’s identical to that on the pricier models, so it still boasts a perfect balance between airflow and dust protection. Still, they’ve retained the core design features that make its higher-end cases such airflow monsters.ĭespite the huge price gap between the P300A and the higher-end Phanteks products (like the P500A) above, you still get the same front mesh panel here. Of course, the company has cut some corners to hit this price bracket. Phanteks’ P300A is one of the few readily-available airflow cases that comes in well under the $100 mark. These take full advantage of that front mesh panel and unobstructed airflow path to provide excellent stock thermals.Į-ATX (10.8 inches max) ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX Phanteks ships the P500A with three 140 mm RGB intake fans. It’s fine enough that Phanteks can ship the P500A without an extra dust filter, keeping airflow high. It’s an “ultra-fine performance mesh” with one-millimeter (0.039-inch) perforations that let air through while minimizing dust ingress. The P500A’s all-steel mesh front panel will be familiar to anyone who’s seen or used a Phanteks airflow case before. It’s not the case for everyone, but builders who want a high-end, roomy case without stepping up to a full tower should check it out. The P500A Digital sits at the top of Phanteks’ airflow case stack, offering the expected high airflow performance with some premium extras that set it apart from the rest of its cases. It’s the same story with the drive cage: it’s on rails so that it’s easy to move it forward and backward to accommodate differently-sized PSUs. This gives the Lancool II Mesh extra flexibility for changing hardware setups. Firstly, the front intake fans (or radiator) mount to a “multi-way bracket” that lets you shift your fan and radiator position slightly to suit your cooling hardware.įor example, you can move your fans closer to the motherboard for air-cooled setups or push the bracket out to accommodate thicker radiators. In addition to cooling performance, there are a few small touches to the Lancool II Mesh that we really like. The P500A is a great case and has its advantages, but the Lancool II Mesh is its equal as far as cooling goes. This puts the Lancool II Mesh on par with the pricier Phanteks P500A, making it the better overall deal. How great? Just look at the numbers:Ħ5.5 degrees Celsius in total on an Intel Core i9-9900K running at 4.6 GHz is impressive, as is 57.5 degrees on a stock RTX 2070 Super. So you get great temperatures out of the box. Unlike some more affordable cases, the Lian Li Lancool II Mesh comes fully equipped from the factory with two 140 mm intake fans and a single 120 mm exhaust. These are the basics of any airflow case, and the Lancool II Mesh gets it right. It has a free-flowing front mesh panel and an unrestrictive interior layout without any drive cages or other metal getting in the way. The Lancool II Mesh follows the standard template most airflow cases use. This makes it a no-brainer if you’re looking for the best PC case for airflow in this form factor. It’s not flashy, but it offers some of the best stock cooling performance from a mid-tower PC case, and at a reasonable price too. Lian Li knows how to make cases, and the Lancool II Mesh proves it. I encourage readers of this blog to join the APA and you can do so at this link: īut the allegations get “juicier!” How often does money laundering come into an insurance lawsuit? Here are the allegations that Tower Hill (TH) slandered the contractor by accusing it of money laundering: The APA recognizes that insurance fraud occurs far too often by those obligated to pay for the loss. The APA studies the conflict of interest present in the adjustment process and monitors the systematic methods used by the insurance industry to determine policy benefits. The property owner and insurer have adverse interests in the determination of an insurance company’s liability. The APA recognizes that at the time of loss, property owners rely upon the insurance companies and their agents to measure the loss to a property and determine what the insurance company is obligated to pay in benefits. Upon information and belief, Tower Hill engaged in other illegal and fraudulent conduct designed to defraud SFR, as assignee, with the intent to obtain monies belonging to SFR, as assignee, and in violation of Florida’s Unfair Insurance Trade Practices Act.ĭoug Quinn is the executive director of the APA, and its primary mission is to prevent insurer fraud against its own customers: Forensic is just one of many engineers and/or engineering firms that conspired with Tower Hill to fraudulently deny or undervalue SFR’s legitimate claims. Forensic would outright deny hurricane damage existed or assert minimal damage findings regardless of the source or extent of damage to the insured’s property. Forensic, an engineering firm, with the directive and agreement that U.S. After initial discovery was conducted, a counterclaim was filed which had two sections of pleadings I noted.įirst, the allegations made against US Forensic should have the American Policyholders Association (APA) take notice: The first lawsuit filed by Tower Hill made various allegations indicating that the contractor was engaged in fraud. Pleadings merely set the stage for a dispute and facts are determined later. It does not mean they are true or that a lawsuit will prevail. But I came across a pleading in a Florida lawsuit where Tower Hill claimed all kinds of fraud against a contractor and a “juicy” counterclaim was filed by the contractor against Tower Hill entities, its CEO and US Forensics.Īll pleadings in lawsuits are allegations. 1 There were some topics that we agreed were “juicy,” with attorneys getting unilateral agreements for umpire appointments and other Texas attorneys winning cases and then being arrested.
